Habersham County Sheriff’s Office fired and arrested two former employees in summer 2026 after internal audits of its Flock license plate reader system. On July 31, 2026, former Deputy Christian Brewer was terminated and booked into the Habersham County Detention Center on a felony violation-of-oath charge and two misdemeanor counts of misuse of license plate data, according to CBS Atlanta and FOX 5 reporting on the sheriff’s office. Officials said an audit found Brewer accessed retained plate data for a personal purpose involving someone with whom he had a personal relationship.
On August 24, 2026, a second employee, Jonathan Robert Thomas, was arrested on the same charge set after the agency continued auditing Flock access, Now Georgia and the Gainesville Times reported. Sheriff Robin Krockum emphasized that misuse of sensitive tools betrays public trust and that the office will hold its own accountable. Now Georgia noted it was not yet clear whether the two cases involved the same person or vehicle.
Both men are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The sheriff’s office said completed investigations would be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review and prosecution.
