Lufkin police officer Zachary Anthony Klein was arrested August 20, 2026, by the Texas Rangers during an investigation into alleged misuse of the department’s Flock Safety license plate reader system, and an Angelina County grand jury then indicted him on 100 counts of misuse of official information, KTRE reported. Jail records cited by local outlets showed bonds totaling $700,000.
According to an arrest affidavit summarized by the East Texas Banner, investigators alleged Klein conducted thousands of Flock searches unrelated to legitimate criminal investigations, including more than 10,000 searches of an ex-girlfriend’s license plate between June 2024 and December 2025, plus searches involving people connected to her and other personal acquaintances. Lufkin Police Chief Travis Brazil said the department suspended use of Flock cameras while investigations continued and had requested Rangers assistance for an independent probe after an internal audit raised concerns.
Klein is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. A second Lufkin officer was suspended pending investigation and has not been publicly identified in available reporting.
