Royse City police officers responded to a disturbance between a Black family and another couple at the Creekside neighborhood pool on August 3, 2026. Viral video and body/dash cam footage show an officer grabbing 35-year-old Janiaca Wheeler by her hair and dragging her to the ground, pushing another woman who was holding a child, and a third young woman getting struck in the face. Officer Robert Crider was fired after an internal affairs investigation found he violated department policy. The case involving the arrested adult was referred to the Collin County District Attorney’s Office.
